Tjong-A-Tjoe, bekend als “Theo TJONG” beeldend fotograaf. Hij heeft geruime tijd in Nederland vertoefd. Naast de studie algemene grafische richting heeft hij ook de fotografie gekozen. In de 70-tiger jaren was hij, indien niet de enige, dan wel een van de weinige freelance fotografen in Nederland afkomstig uit Suriname. Terwijl hij met een zorgvuldig opgebouwde fotografisch techniek de modefotografie beoefende, kreeg hij een aanbieding te exposeren in een kunstgalerie. Door het combineren van de grafische technieken met de fotografie creëerd hij gaande weg onder de naam “Fotografieken” niet allerdaagse foto’s. Hetgeen hem in de loop der jaren middels de vele expos en aankopen van partikulieren en gerenomeerde  instellingen op het gebied van de kunst hem de betiteling van “beeldend fotograaf” gaf.

De reeks aktiviteiten op het gebied van tentoonstellingen is na een periode van rust vanaf het begin van de 90-tiger jaren wederom toegenomen. Zijn visie verwoord hij als volgt: “Ik wil middels de fotografie als geboren Surinamer mijn land in positieve zin uitdragen”. Voor hem is daarom het niet meer aktief hoeven deel te nemen aan het arbeidproces een welkome gelegenheid om zijn passie - de fotografie – in de meest letterlijke zin te beoefenen.

De overstap van de analoge- naar de  digitalefotografie is voor hem nog steeds de zuiverste vorm van de fotografie, namelijk het schrijven met licht. Hij ziet zichzelf niet als een kunstenaar. Dat zijn fotowerken  in de loop der jaren tesamen met gerenomeerde kunstenaars is gekocht en toegevoegd aan kunst collecties van vooraanstaande instellingen, is voor hem slechts een bevestiging dat middels de fotografie ook kunstwerken kunnen ontstaan.

By combining the graphic techniques with the photography he main road transport under the name 'photo graphic' not everyday photos. What brings him over the years through the many expos and purchases by individuals and renowned institutions in the field of the art give him the entitlement of 'Visual photographer'.

The series of activities in the field of exhibitions is after a period of rest from the beginning of the 90-tiger years once again increased. He expressed his vision as follows: 'I want my country Suriname through photography as born in a positive sense to spread'. For him is therefore not need to participate in the more active workproces a welcome opportunity to his passion-photography – in the most literal sense.

The switch from the analog to the digitalphotography is for him still the purest form of photography, namely writing with light. He does not see himself as an artist. That over the years his photography works together with renowned artists was purchased and added to art collections from leading institutions, is for him only a confirmation that photography works could also be art.
